Types of Braces
Dawson Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics works hard to provide the very best orthodontic care for all ages! Our office is constantly incorporating all of the latest technology to make braces as quick and pain-free as possible, as well as offering a wide range of treatment options at unbeatable prices for you and your family.
Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. These braces are made of high-grade stainless steel or titanium. Metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and arch-wires. Your child also has the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) that are fun to change at each appointment for a unique and colorful smile.
Ceramic braces are made of translucent (porcelain) material and are most popular due to their cosmetic appearance. The only drawback to porcelain braces is that they tend to be more fragile and require more attention to oral hygiene. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers.
Conventional braces are tied in with elastics, whichcause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a specialized clip to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely with low-friction force, and guide them quickly and comfortably into place. While the time needed in braces will vary from case to case, treatment time with Damon braces is typically much faster than with conventional braces. Damon braces also require fewer adjustment appointments, making your experience more convenient and hassle-free.
